Widjiitiwin – the way camp was meant to be… relational, central, natural, and reaching out, a loving community focused on Christ. It’s like coming home, it’s my camp!

Thank you for your interest in working at Camp Widjiitiwin for the summer of 2012. In the last four summers we have worked on fixing up cabins and painting everything, we rebuilt activity areas and added new activities, we have been rebuilding our reputation and focusing on what Widji can offer that no one else can. More importantly we have refocused us as staff to be there for the camper first and then for ourselves. We have focused on ministry and not what I can get out of it. We have set aside divisions and become one team.

At Widji we are focusing on impacting the world through Camp Widjiitiwin by impacting campers and families through changed lives, refocused on Christ and the gospel; impacting the Malvern and Hamilton communities by positive lifestyle impact on campers through specialized partnership weeks; and impacting churches, neighbourhoods and schools through staff dedicated to living out their faith in front of the campers and at home.

In 2011 God continued going ahead of us as a ministry. Although the timing wasn’t always as soon as I would have liked it, God delivered in so many ways. This applied to all areas of camp including staffing, financial donations, volunteering and gifts in kind, campers, programs and more. God was moving in the hearts of camper and staff as they came to Widji. Many got serious about their faith and 29 campers became Christians at camp this summer. As we move into 2012 we continue will focus on the relationship opportunities that happen between campers and staff, specifically their cabin leaders.

New to the Widji tactical plan for 2012 are:
The definition of some of our values not previously obvious in the plan, but happening within the camp program including leadership, stewardship, teamwork,
Additional staff including 1-2 male cabin leaders and the Theme Queen program position

To move ahead with our renewed focus on theme at Widji we will be building bigger and better props like the castle, treasure chest, snake, shields and more. To facilitate this, a new staff position will be added in the program department – the Theme Queen.

We will continue tofocus on staff selection, development and mentoring as they are at the heart of building relationships with the campers and are the first camp voice they hear about a relationship with Jesus. Developing the next generation into active leaders at camp and back in their communities is a key role of Widji in the SALT program and through staff development and allowing the staff and SALTers to have leadership experiences, even to the point of “failing with dignity”.

We serve a great God and as He continues to go ahead of us we will accomplish great things for His Kingdom. Our mission based on 2 Corinthians 5:20 is “Camp Widjiitiwin exists to be an ambassador for Christ to children and youth through compelling camp community experiences focused on demonstrating the gospel message through the Word of God, positive relationships and creative interactions”.

At Camp Widjiitiwin we seek staff with a desire to serve Christ and work hard are the priorities sought in the selection of staff. As a result of the large number of applications for a limited number of positions, we are not able to hire everyone who applies. Note: you must be 15 years old before the start of the summer (July 1st) to be eligible to apply for summer staff. Sorry if this disqualifies you, but we have a great SALT leadership program you can check out on our website.

This is a great place to spend a summer serving God! Please pray that staffing will be accomplished according to God's purpose and plan for all our lives as for the ministry here. If that’s the kind of summer you’re looking for please click the Info to Know arrow below and then read carefully through each of the following pages until you come to the “Apply Now” button.

Being ambassadors for Christ to children and youth

2 Corinthians 5:20 - We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.
